(3/1/2010) Tyler Myers - Buffalo Sabres
The six foot eight inch skyscraper has made an impact this year like very few rookies before him. He has become his team’s top defenseman in his first year playing pro hockey, and has his team in a battle for the division lead.

Myers is tied for third overall in rookie scoring with 32 points, while averaging over twenty three and a half minutes a game. You have to go all the way back to mid October to find a game that Myers has failed to put into a minimum of twenty minutes of ice time. The month of February was significantly shortened with the Olympic break, but what Myers has accomplished thus far this season is a true indicator that he will be in the discussion for the Calder Trophy at season’s end.

(2/4/2010) Matt Duchene - Colorado Avalanche
Matt Duchene has made an impact this season that many didn’t see coming.  The third overall pick of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft has been consistent, and been able to help lead an accelerated youth movement in the Mile High city.

Averaging over seventeen minutes of ice time a night, the rookie is currently tied for the rookie lead in goals, second in points and is the leading the overall rookie point producer to this point in the season.  One of only five rookies to score a shorthanded goal so far this season, Matt also has collected 13 points on the power play.  In the month of January, Duchene tallied six goals, added three assists for nine points in twelve games in the month.

(1/4/2010) John Tavares - New York Islanders
The highly-touted Tavares neared the halfway mark of his debut season as the NHL’s rookie leader in both points and goals. The 19-year-old sniper started off the month of December by tallying 6 points in the Isles’ first 4 games, including back-to-back, two-goal efforts on December 8 and 9. Tavares has been particularly lethal on the power play, bagging 8 of his first 15 markers with the man-advantage – the league’s third-best total through mid-December.
