Trading Card Company secured exclusive sound bites with the league’s much-touted rookies at the 2010 NFL PLAYERS Rookie Premiere event
Carlsbad, CA (Nov. 18, 2010) – In the past month alone, Cleveland‘s first-year quarterback Colt McCoy out of Texas has led his new team to upset victories over defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans and perennial powerhouse New England, and nearly orchestrated a third straight surprise win over Mark Sanchez and company last Sunday. Detroit’s Jahvid Best, meanwhile, the rookie rushing sensation fresh out of his Cal Bears uniform, has already scored five rushing TDs for the Motor City faithful and has Ford Field fans jumping.
With the NFL season heading into Week 11 action, Upper Deck is proud to share some unique sound bites the company landed from the aforementioned pair of much-touted rookies along with Ryan Mathews (Fresno State/San Diego) and C.J. Spiller (Oklahoma State/Buffalo). The on-camera interviews were captured in May during the 2010 NFL PLAYERS Rookie Premiere event held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. And now that each of these four players has made a favorable impression in the professional ranks, it’s time to take a look at what they had to say before suiting up for their first NFL games.
For example, did you know that McCoy’s most cherished college memory was playing in his last home game for the Longhorns against Kansas and enjoying his final minutes as a player with the overzealous Texas fans? Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4-iFlj8914 to see McCoy’s complete interview in which he also discusses Texas’s biggest rivalries against Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
Best, meanwhile, who racked up more than 2,600 rushing yards in college, mentioned that Cal’s biggest rivalry was with Stanford. And much of that had to do with the cross-town schools’ academic programs just as much as their battles on the gridiron. Watch as Best reminisces about his playing days with the Bears: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vBPIpao9GA.
Fellow running back Spiller, who tallied more than 3,400 rushing yards for Clemson, always admired former NFL running back Warrick Dunn for what he was able to accomplish on the field and off. Take a listen as Buffalo’s new backfield threat talks about his idols, rivals and cherished collegiate memories: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RScKgYcrg6U. Mathews, meanwhile, who’s now carrying the pigskin for San Diego, was a true workhorse during his three-year career at Fresno State as he led the nation in rushing in 2009 by averaging just over 150 yards per game. Watch as he talks about his collegiate playing days and who some of his major influences were on the gridiron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxtIU9HeZfw.
Look for autographed cards from each of these rookies making an impact in the professional ranks inside Upper Deck’s 2010 NCAA Sweet Spot and SPx football sets, both of which are currently available on store shelves.
