Just like with Chomp, there are two versions of Terry in the Dinosaur King Trading Card Game: the cute, little version and his super-powered Battle Mode form. You need to start out by playing the little Terry and then play Terry (Battle Mode) on top of that. Little Terry starts with only 800 Power, so he can have a tough time winning if he’s attacked by your opponent. The best trick is to wait until you have both little Terry and Terry (Battle Mode) in your hand and then play them both on the same turn.
Once he’s powered up, Terry can really give you control of the game. You can play him on any turn as long as you have both cards, and he’s most brutal in the first few turns. That’s because his 1500 Power makes him stronger than even most level 3 Dinosaurs. He can dominate a whole army of your opponent’s smaller Dinosaurs and give you a big Life Point advantage.
Terry, like Chomp, has two special abilities. The first is [Fire Master]. It lets Terry use any Fire Super Move, no matter what Rock-Paper-Scissors icon it has. There are three Super Moves for each Element that each give +1000 Power, but each one also has a Rock, Paper, or Scissors icon on it. Usually, a Dinosaur has to match both the Element and the Rock-Paper-Scissors icon to use these, but not Terry! With three copies of each of those, that means you can have nine Super Moves in your deck that will all give Terry +1000 Power.
Terry’s other ability is called [Combo Bite]. It’s a lot like the [Bite] ability that other Fire Dinosaurs have. It works when you win a battle, and it makes your opponent lose 1 extra Life Point. Unlike regular [Bite], [Combo Bite] works even during your opponent’s turn, but you have to play a Super Move. With [Fire Master], that’s no problem for Terry! If you get Terry out early in the game, this ability gives you an even bigger advantage—low-level Dinosaurs don’t have much Life, but [Combo Bite] makes up for it.
If you’re using Terry in your deck, you have to use Dr. Z as your Character. It wouldn’t make sense for Terry to fight for the D-Team, after all! Dr. Z lets you search out a small Terry from your deck. He also lets you bring a Dinosaur from your discard pile back into play once per game. You still have to meet that Dinosaur’s level requirement, so no brining back a level 6 on turn 2! It’s still a very useful ability that can be used in some cool combos.
In a deck based on Terry, you always want to get him into play as soon as possible. That means you’ll want to get three copies of each version, so you have more chances to draw him. One Dinosaur that can help out is the Water Dinosaur Patagosaurus. It’s a level 2 that has the [Exchange] special ability. When you Dino Slash it, you can discard a card, then draw a card. That can help you draw Terry or Terry (Battle Mode) if you haven’t already. If you discard a high-level Dinosaur, like a level 4 or higher, you can just play it later with Dr. Z’s ability!
Special Dinosaurs like Terry are some of the most powerful Dinosaurs you can get in the Dinosaur King Trading Card Game. Look for Terry and Terry (Battle Mode) in booster packs, and get ready to make your move!
