The opening weekend of NFL action has collectors jumping all over the 2008 rookie class
North Las Vegas, NV (September 9, 2008) – One of the best parts about collecting football rookie cards is that you usually do not have to wait long for them to make an impact. After a riveting weekend of NFL excitement, it’s obvious the 2008 rookie class is ready to play. Upper Deck is proud to deliver football fanatics some of the most collectible trading cards of these new stars.
Rookie quarterbacks do not have a very good track record of starting strong in the NFL, but Joe Flacco of the Ravens and Matt Ryan of the Falcons came out looking like veteran stars. Flacco racked up yards through the air and with his feet to help upset the Bengals. Matt Ryan became the first quarterback in eight years to start off his career with a touchdown pass as he vaulted the Falcons past the Lions. Both these quarterbacks will have a strong presence with signed cards in 2008 Upper Deck releases.
Rookie running backs used their fresh legs to dominate throughout the weekend. Chris Johnson (Titans), Kevin Smith (Lions), Felix Jones (Cowboys), Darren McFadden (Raiders), Jonathan Stewart (Panthers) and Ray Rice (Falcons) all showed flashes of brilliance. It was Matt Forte of the Bears however who led the way by scampering for 123 yards and a touchdown to shock the Colts in Indianapolis. Collectors had better catch these players while they can.
Even the rookie wide receivers made their presence felt as DeSean Jackson of the Eagles proved to be a favorite target of Donovan McNabb pulling in six catches for over 100 yards. Not to be outdone, Eddie Royal of the Broncos turned out to be a Monday Night maniac snagging nine receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown. For being in strong football markets, it seems these two players will pay nice dividends to those who can get their Upper Deck rookie cards now.
“We have done a great job making sure there are Upper Deck football products for every type of collector in the market to start the season,” said Brandon Miller, Upper Deck associate brand manager for football. “Rookie collectors can enjoy products like 2008 NFL Draft Edition and 2008 NFL Upper Deck. More serious collectors can enjoy some of the chase elements with 2008 NFL Heroes, 2008 NFL SPx and 2008 NFL Icons. Launching soon are two higher-end releases that will really create a stir with the most passionate collectors with 2008 NFL Premier and 2008 NFL SP Rookie Threads.”
The football season is in full effect. Upper Deck invites you to collect it.
