Short-printed autographs from Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Gordie Howe and Tiger Woods highlight the ‘Sport Royalty’ lineup
North Las Vegas, NV (August 1, 2008) – Once again Upper Deck has pulled out all the stops to ensure that this year’s Goudey Baseball release is the best trading card collection of its kind. Averaging one memorabilia card, one hard-signed autograph card and seven “Mini 1934 Goudey-Sized Parallel” cards per box, 2008 Goudey Baseball promises to be an exciting product launch for sports fans everywhere.
Beyond the brand’s name and historical significance, driving this year’s Goudey Baseball release will once again be the “Sport Royalty” subset and its diversified autographed inserts. With signed cards from many of the most talented athletes in the world, Upper Deck continues to push the envelope when it comes to nailing down superior content. Included as part of the mix of Sports Royalty autographed cards are high-flying NBA star LeBron James, Olympic gold-medal-winning gymnast Kerri Strug, NHL superstar Sidney Crosby and MLB flame-thrower Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Several short-printed autographs appear as part of the coveted "Sport Royalty" and "Goudey Graphs" lineups. Incredible names like reigning NBA MVP Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Terry Bradshaw, Gordie Howe, Magic Johnson and 11-time NBA champion Bill Russell top the list of must-haves.

As part of the overall “Goudey Graphs” assortment, collectors will find randomly placed inserts with hard-signed signatures from memorable ex-big leaguers like Bucky Dent, Steve Carlton, Bobby Thomson, Fred Lynn and Johnny Bench. In addition, collectors can come across cool “Goudey Cut Signature” cards sporting the scrawls of deceased superstars such as NASCAR icon Dale Earnhardt and MLB Hall-of-Famers like Joe DiMaggio, Warren Spahn and Willie Stargell. Loved by traditional hobbyists and set builders, the 2008 MLB Goudey launch will excite collectors everywhere with its outstanding variety of short prints and variations.
“The Goudey name is an important one in the annals of our industry,” said Jason Masherah, Upper Deck’s Senior Product Manager. “We’re trying to preserve the integrity of the Goudey legacy while we add some exciting inserts and parallels to the launch. All in all, collectors young and old will no doubt like what they see.”
Included in this year’s assortment will be “Buyback” cards of original Goudey cards including the prestigious 1934 Lou Gehrig card. In addition, special 1934 Goudey Sized Mini Parallels and “Goudey Presidents” cards will be featured. Previous Commander-in-Chiefs highlighted in the subset include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.
The 2008 Goudey Baseball collection carries a suggested retail price of $4.99 per eight-card pack, with 18 packs per box. The product is available in stores now.
