New Insert Sets Feature Cut Autographs from Baseball Hall of Famers and Historical Personalities
Carlsbad, CA – (September 7, 2007) – One of the most anticipated Baseball releases of the year makes it’s return September 12th when 2007 SP Legendary Cuts Baseball hits hobby stores around the country. The set affords the collector an opportunity to pull autograph cards of deceased players and personalities. Signatures of these famous figures are acquired from old checks, contracts and documents and then sent to Upper Deck’s exclusive authenticator James Spence to be confirmed as genuine. Finally they are embedded into a trading card which is inserted randomly into packs to give the collector an amazing opportunity to pull a piece of history from the product.
This year there are several enhancements to the brand which are sure to create excitement within the hobby. The new Material Cuts insert will debut Upper Deck’s first ever set with cut signatures and game used memorabilia swatches on the same card. The set will also include dual and quad cut cards that feature two or four autograph cuts on the same card. The cuts will feature historical legends like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jackie Robinson, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Cy Young and many more.
The new Signature Cuts set will showcase autographs of a deceased star with a living legend. Some of these Signature Cut cards include Don Drysdale paired with Sandy Koufax, Honus Wagner with Cal Ripken Jr. and Babe Ruth with Reggie Jackson. There are also rare autograph historical cuts of famous personalities like Abner Doubleday and Charles Lindbergh.
“Besides all the autograph content, there are two new subsets we are very excited about,” shared Gregg Kohn, Upper Deck Baseball Product Manager. “The Legendary Americana set highlights famous personalities from the past like Abraham Lincoln, John D. Rockefeller, Henry Ford, Wyatt Earp and many more in a unique 100 card set limited to 550 copies per card. The Reel History insert may be the most unique we have done in some time. We procured vintage film reels of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and inserted strips showing them in action into a one of one card. They are just amazing.”
Each twelve pack box will yield one memorabilia card and one more memorabilia card or autograph card on average. Each eight card pack carries a suggested retail price of $9.99. Additionally, Upper Deck and Sweet Deal Distributors will be co-hosting a pre-release party for this year’s set on Tuesday, September 11th at Card Connection in Newhall, CA.
