The Dinosaur King Trading Card Game has arrived, and dinosaur fans everywhere are having fun commanding Dinosaurs and mastering Moves. If you haven’t yet, grab a Dinosaur King TCG Starter Set and see what it’s all about.
Once you’ve played a few games, it’s time to start customizing your deck. One of the easiest ways to make a strong deck is to focus on one Element. Last week we checked out Fire Dinosaurs and Super Moves to see what makes them so hot! If Fire’s not your thing, maybe you’ll get a charge out of these Lightning cards.
Lightning Dinosaurs are all ceratopsians, which are four-legged dinosaurs with frills on their necks. Ceratopsids were herbivores. They were preyed on by therapods like the Fire Dinosaurs from the last article. But, just like in real life, the ceratopsians in the Dinosaur King TCG have ways to fight back!
The strongest Lightning Dinosaur is Styracosaurus. Many Lightning Dinosaurs are stronger when you have other Lightning Dinosaurs in play, and Styracosaurus is no exception. If you have another Lightning Dinosaur in play when you Dino Slash it, you get to make one of your opponent’s Dinosaurs lose 500 Power and all of its special abilities! Losing 500 Power makes that Dinosaur much easier to defeat. On top of that, taking away its ability can be crushing, especially if it’s an ability that happens when that Dinosaur loses a battle.
[Recharge] is another Lightning ability. A Dinosaur with [Recharge] can give up its own attack to let one of your other Lightning Dinosaurs attack again. Achelousaurus is a great example. It’s a level 2 Dinosaur, so if you draw it later in the game it might have a hard time defeating the higher-level Dinosaurs your opponent has in play. But if you use [Recharge], it can let one of your own high-level Dinosaurs do double duty!
Sometimes your Dinosaurs will lose a battle, no matter how good your plan is. But some Lightning Dinosaurs have an ability that takes some of the pain away. When a Dinosaur with [Power Shield] loses a battle, if you have 2 other Lightning Dinosaurs in play, you lose 1 less Life Point than you normally would. So, if your 3-life Pachyrhinosaurus loses, you only lose 2 Life Points. Saving just a few Life Points can mean the difference between victory and defeat, so a few Dinosaurs with [Power Shield] really add up.
Lightning Super Moves also get better the more Lightning Dinosaurs you have in play. Energy Spike gives the Dinosaur that uses it a gigantic +900 Power boost, but you can only play it if you have three Lightning Dinosaurs in play. If you use Voltage Boost and win the battle, all of your Dinosaurs can attack again that turn! You can get up to three extra attacks with it, which will put a serious hurt on any opponent.
Teamwork and strength in numbers are Lightning Dinosaurs’ specialties. Because of this, it’s best to use them in an all-Lightning deck so you can make sure their abilities are working to their maximum potential. Plus, if you’re a fan of the Dinosaur King TV show, Chomp is a Lightning Dinosaur, and he makes an awesome addition to your Lightning Deck!
