I'll be honest I played little league ball from 6 years old thru 12 years and never got a hit! I got hit by a pitch once and was crying so hard at first base the coach told me to steal second and I got thrown out.. You'd had thought the other teams catcher had just won the world series the way he celebrated that gun out to 2nd!
No , my favorite memory of baseball as a child came in 1968 while visiting my grandparents somewhere in the san fernando valley of California where my Grandpa George bought me my first pack of baseball cards from the travelling lunch wagon that stopped by his house one Saturday! I was debating gum or candy bar when he said.. give him two packs of those baseball cards there to the man in the truck! He then handed them to me and said.. this way you get the best of both worlds son.. Gum to chew and cards to keep! We opened and he expalined the players (that he knew) and such, Little did I know , what he had set in motion!
I still have those two packs of cards, Grandpa passed away in 1970 and I think that day was the last time I ever saw him alive .
Congrats to those little leaguers and I hope bigger and better things are on the horizon for each of you!
